Description
AirDesign Exta – #EscapeTheMatrix
Born in the heart of the mountains. The Exta is a lightweight ParaKite designed for pilots who want to push their limits and experience the mountains in a different way.
Halfway between a paraglider and a parakite, the Exta opens up new possibilities: making the most of thermals, soaring in the mountains, enjoying Speed Flying, or giving your Hike & Fly adventures a whole new dimension.
Imagine every feature in the landscape as a ramp and every slope as a new line to explore. The Exta makes this discipline more intuitive, accessible, and fun, even in demanding terrain.
Strong-wind afternoons in Àger will change forever! Leave parawaiting behind and embrace parakiting! A thermal ridge like Àger is the perfect playground for the EXTA—and a nightmare for every other parakite on the market…
Key features
- Lightweight, compact ParaKite for mountain flying, soaring, thermals, and Hike & Fly.
- Hybrid concept combining paragliding and parakiting.
- Stable and manoeuvrable behaviour.
- Customisable brake adjustment.
- Reinforced materials for intensive use.
- Available in sizes 12, 16, 18, and 21.
- EN 926-1 certified.
Accessible and inspiring
The Exta has been designed to help more pilots discover the world of parakiting. Its moderate aspect ratio and hybrid concept offer an excellent balance between the inherent stability of a parakite and the responsive behaviour of a paraglider.
The tension of the internal structure and the control of the profile’s rigidity provide behaviour compatible with active air. In addition, the pyramid-shaped D-lines contribute to greater active safety by helping the wing reopen in the event of a frontal collapse.
Adaptable brake settings
Brake sensitivity can be adjusted through the different attachment points on the main brake line. The Exta is delivered with a neutral, versatile setting.
- Shorter brakes: more direct response, greater precision, and more manoeuvrability, with a firmer feel.
- Longer brakes: more progressive control with less effort required at the brakes.
Built to last
The stabilisers feature a more resistant fabric to withstand repeated friction. The wing integrates AirDesign technologies such as Ghost Nose Guard to protect the leading edge, flexible and durable nitinol rods, and an optimised internal structure to reduce weight, limit deformation, and preserve performance over time.
For intensive use, the entire leading edge and the last five cells are made from reinforced fabric.
Precise control
When the magnets on the risers and brake handles line up, the wing is in its neutral position. The brake travel is similar to that of a conventional paraglider and ends with clear resistance that warns of the proximity to the stall point.
Performance for the mountains
Thanks to its technical features, the Exta delivers excellent performance in both soaring and thermal flying. It allows you to explore flight lines that would normally be out of reach.
True lightness
Size 16 weighs only 2.20 kg and fits perfectly into a 24-litre Hike & Fly backpack. An ideal choice for pilots who prioritise lightweight equipment without giving up flight possibilities.

Frequently asked questions
Can you learn to fly with the Exta?
Thanks to their moderate dynamics, sizes 18 and 21 are particularly suitable for specific parakite training. Training must always be supervised by qualified instructors and carried out within the recommended weight range.
Is it suitable for speed flying or speed riding?
Yes. The Exta can be a great introduction to these disciplines, provided that you choose the right size according to your all-up flying weight and complete the necessary training.
Can you fly it in thermals?
Yes. The brake travel is designed to let the pilot accurately sense their position in relation to the stall point. Its low aspect ratio and stable profile support active use in mountain thermal conditions.
Do I need a special harness?
Not necessarily. It can be used with compatible harnesses, although a model with suitable protection is recommended for safer enjoyment of the activity.
Can it collapse like a paraglider?
Yes. Like any flexible wing, it can experience collapses; therefore, proper training, respect for flying conditions, and the use of appropriate safety techniques are essential.
Do I need to be a paraglider pilot?
It is not essential for getting started, but it is necessary to choose the right size, comply with current regulations, and train with professionals to practise this activity legally and safely.
